What to do first
Open it in the morning and read the top. The rows are ordered by what is most pressing, and anything overdue is marked. Press a row to open the record it concerns. Do the work there, and the row goes.
The filters
Pills across the top, one per kind of work the queue can raise:
- Everything. The whole queue.
- Tasks. Work assigned to you, and the to dos you wrote yourself.
- Follow ups. A lead whose next action has fallen due, or that nobody has spoken to in a week.
- Approvals. A purchase request your seat can decide on.
- Delivery. An overdue milestone on your projects, or work nobody has been given.
- Collections. An instalment past its date on a client you closed.
- Feedback. Feedback somebody has asked you for.
- Reviews. A review step waiting on you.
- Relationships. An account of yours that has gone quiet with something unresolved.
- Stuck. Something sitting with you in a workflow past its allowance.
If a pill is empty it tells you why in one line, naming the module that would have filled it. An empty pill with nothing under it reads as broken, and knowing the difference between "you have no approvals waiting" and "approvals are not working" matters.
Mine and my team's
Managers get a toggle. It opens on your own work for everybody, and switching to the team scope adds your people's rows with their names on them.
It is a toggle rather than a widening on purpose. Folding a manager's team quietly into "what needs you" makes every row read as personally owed, and the first response to a queue full of other people's work is to stop reading it. The control only appears if you manage somebody.
Ticking things off
Most rows have no tick box, and that is deliberate. "Chase this lead" is not a thing you complete, it is a thing that stops being true when you call them. A queue you can tick clean without doing the work is a queue that lies.
Two kinds can be ticked, because you wrote or were given them:
- Your own to dos, which are the one part of this page a person types.
- Tasks assigned to you. A task can be closed by its assignee, the person who created it, or the owner of the project it belongs to.
A tick takes the row out immediately. If the server refuses, the row comes back where it was with a message saying why. If you have no connection, the tick is kept and sent when you do.
Adding something of your own
The add control writes a personal to do. It is yours, it appears under Tasks, and if it goes overdue you hear about it and nobody else does.
How rows get here
Each row names the module that raised it, so you can tell at a glance whether this is a sales problem, a delivery problem or a money problem. A row that came from your own list says so too.
Common questions
I did the work and the row is still there. The queue recomputes from the record. If the record has not changed in the way the row is about, the row stays. An overdue instalment leaves when it is paid, not when you have called about it.
Why can I not tick a follow up? Because it is not a thing to complete. It stops being true when the lead's next action changes in Leads.
Why is my queue empty? Either nothing is waiting on you, or the modules that would raise rows are not in use yet. Each empty pill says which.
Where else does this queue appear? The head of it is on Home, under "Needs you", and on Your day.
